Blocked coronary arteries diagnosed after month-long chest pain

Ms. Kim, 50, experienced chest pain radiating from her back for a month without seeking medical care, leading to a diagnosis of severely blocked coronary arteries.

A computed tomography (CT) scan at Tam Anh District 7 General Clinic revealed that multiple coronary artery branches were almost completely blocked (90-99%). Doctors performed coronary intervention, angioplasty, and stenting on the severely affected branches. The procedure was successful, restoring good coronary blood flow with no complications. Following the intervention, Ms. Kim experienced no chest pain, recovered quickly, and was discharged.

Doctor of First Degree Specialist Hong Van In, Head of the Emergency Unit at Tam Anh District 7 General Clinic, stated that Ms. Kim was fortunate to undergo a specialized examination that detected the disease. She had no prior history of cardiovascular disease and therefore did not have a habit of undergoing general health screenings. Previously, the patient did not exhibit typical symptoms such as severe left chest pain, chest tightness, or shortness of breath.

Doctor of Second Degree Specialist Pham Thi Thanh Tam, Head of the General Internal Medicine Unit at Tam Anh District 7 General Clinic, noted that dangerous diseases like cardiovascular conditions, stroke, and cancer often progress silently over many years. Patients typically live and work normally during this time. Initial vague symptoms include prolonged fatigue, reduced concentration, sleep disorders, and unexplained weight changes. These signs are easily overlooked, or patients may attribute them to work stress or age. "Many people only seek medical attention when they are already in pain, leading to diagnoses only in advanced stages", said Doctor Tam.

If unusual signs such as fatigue, decreased stamina, sleep disorders, weight changes, or recurrent dull pain occur, early medical examination is recommended. Early detection of risk factors can reduce treatment burden and limit future complications.
