Last week, a 35-year-old man arrived at Viet Duc Hospital in critical condition following a motorcycle accident where he crashed into a pile of scrap metal. He was in severe shock from blood loss and his life was in danger. Doctors diagnosed him with multiple severe injuries, including a ruptured liver, ruptured diaphragm, ruptured colon, and a collapsed lung. A large wound across his chest and abdomen had left his internal organs exposed. He also sustained injuries to his face.
The hospital immediately initiated its emergency response protocol. A multidisciplinary team of specialists from emergency medicine, hepatobiliary surgery, gastroenterology, orthopedic trauma, maxillofacial surgery, and anesthesiology was assembled to perform the complex surgery.
During the lengthy operation, the patient received 4 liters of blood to compensate for his massive blood loss. Doctors performed several procedures simultaneously, including inserting a chest tube, suturing the liver to stop the bleeding, removing the ruptured section of his colon, and creating a temporary colostomy. They also set his broken arm and ankle and treated other open wounds.
The patient is now in stable condition and conscious, remaining in the hospital for further treatment and monitoring.
