On 14/5, the Drug Administration of Vietnam issued a decision to recall two cosmetic products: MesoInstitute Hair Repair Hair Solution and Pressensa Quality Dermal Solutions Defencextra 80+ SPF. Authorities determined that the formulas of these products were inconsistent with their approved registered dossiers, and the stated uses on their labels did not match the registration records.
The Drug Administration of Vietnam instructed provincial and city Departments of Health to notify businesses and cosmetic users to immediately cease distribution and use of the two products, returning them to their supplier. Local authorities are also tasked with enhancing inspections, supervision, and enforcing regulations regarding violations.
Thanh Lam One Member Limited Liability Company is responsible for sending recall notices to its entire distribution network, accepting returned products, and organizing the recall and destruction of all non-compliant cosmetic batches. A report on the recall results must be submitted to the Drug Administration of Vietnam by 10/6.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health is assigned to oversee the company's recall process and report the results to the Ministry of Health by 15/6.
Additionally, the Drug Administration of Vietnam revoked the product announcement numbers for the two cosmetic products. The company is also temporarily barred from submitting and having cosmetic product registration dossiers reviewed for 6 months.
According to data from Statista, Vietnam's cosmetic market is projected to exceed 2,4 billion USD in 2024, with 90% comprising imported products, creating a significant challenge for quality control. So far this year, the Ministry of Health has consistently recalled and destroyed substandard products. These efforts reflect a broader crackdown by regulatory agencies on the pharmaceutical and cosmetic markets, addressing issues such as counterfeit goods, poor quality items, and misleading advertising.
