This was the child Chi had longed for after ten years of infertility, conceived through in vitro fertilization. At 24 weeks of pregnancy, she experienced severe abdominal pain and vomiting, leading to an emergency admission at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Center, Tam Anh General Hospital. An ultrasound revealed a twisted tumor in her right ovary, measuring 52x35 mm, occupying most of her abdomen and displacing surrounding organs. The surgical team performed laparoscopic surgery to remove the tumor while ensuring the safety of the fetus.
Doctors closely monitored Chi's pregnancy, administering anti-contraction medication and hormones to soften the uterine muscle and control contractions. Seven days later, she faced threatened preterm labor as her cervix dilated 3 cm, contractions became frequent, and the amniotic sac bulged into the vagina. Medical treatment was no longer effective. Doctors then opted for a cervical cerclage to try and save the pregnancy. They had to push back the prolapsed amniotic membrane before suturing the cervix to secure the fetus.
After two interventions, the fetus remained safe in the womb until 38 weeks. At this point, doctors decided on a planned cesarean section to ensure the safety of both mother and baby.

According to Doctor Quyet, ovarian torsion during pregnancy is a dangerous complication, with no absolute preventive measures. Therefore, women should have regular gynecological examinations and pay attention to abnormal pain. Pregnant women with a history of ovarian tumors should closely monitor their pregnancy and the tumor's condition.
Symptoms of ovarian torsion depend on the degree and duration of the twist. Severe pelvic pain typically begins suddenly. It can be continuous or intermittent, often responds poorly to common pain relievers, and is accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Occasionally, symptoms include digestive disorders, constipation, or lower limb edema. These can easily be mistaken for kidney stones, appendicitis, urinary tract infections, gastritis, or enteritis.
Should any unusual symptoms appear, pregnant women must seek medical attention immediately for timely diagnosis. If an ovarian tumor or ovarian torsion requiring intervention is detected, doctors can perform laparoscopic surgery when the pregnancy is over 12 weeks.
