A family in Kich Mang village, Muong Gion commune, consumed fruit and yogurt purchased by an uncle who had returned for the New Year's holiday. After their evening meal on 31/12/2025, three children experienced abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and fatigue. They were initially treated at the commune health station before being transferred to Quynh Nhai Regional Hospital. Tragically, a 3-year-old boy died en route to the hospital.
The following day, three more family members developed similar symptoms and were admitted to Quynh Nhai Regional Hospital.
In total, six individuals exhibited similar abnormal symptoms after consuming the fruit and yogurt, leading to an initial diagnosis of suspected food poisoning.
Currently, two adults have been discharged from the hospital. One child has passed away, and the three remaining young children are under observation in stable condition.
The local health center collected patient samples for testing, and police are investigating the incident. The cause has not yet been determined, nor is the source of the fruit and yogurt known.
On 4/1, the Food Safety Authority, under the Ministry of Health, directed Son La's health sector to investigate and trace the origin of the suspected contaminated food. They also requested testing of both food and patient samples to identify the cause.
