This initiative, according to Long Chau, aligns with its strategy to "enhance access to medical breakthroughs and alleviate the burden on domestic cardiovascular patients."
The risk of recurrent myocardial infarction
Medical experts note that even after hospital discharge following a myocardial infarction or stroke, patients face ongoing challenges in maintaining cardiovascular health.
International scientific studies reveal that one in five patients who have experienced a myocardial infarction will suffer another serious cardiovascular event within the subsequent 12 months. Nearly 50% of these recurrences happen within the first three months post-event, a critical period cardiovascular specialists deem the "golden window" for risk management.
Elevated levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (ldl-c), commonly known as "bad cholesterol," are a primary risk factor for recurrent myocardial infarction. High ldl-c contributes to the continued buildup of atherosclerotic plaques in blood vessel walls, raising the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and other cardiovascular complications. While current treatments have improved disease management, many patients fail to reach target ldl-c levels recommended by international cardiovascular associations. A study in the ASEAN Heart Journal in 9/2018 highlighted Vietnam's modest rate of patients achieving post-treatment ldl-c goals, underscoring the urgent need for more effective therapeutic options.

Active ingredient helps reduce "bad cholesterol" in blood
Addressing the persistent "treatment gap," Long Chau has partnered to introduce a new generation ldl-c control solution, widely used globally, to help Vietnamese people manage recurrent myocardial infarction risks and severe cardiovascular conditions. This therapy utilizes the active ingredient evolocumab, prescribed for patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease or those at very high cardiovascular risk requiring more aggressive ldl-c management under medical supervision.
The Fourier study, involving 27,564 patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease on statin therapy, demonstrated evolocumab's effectiveness in reducing ldl-c. Beyond cholesterol level management, this therapy also helps slow the progression of arterial plaques and lowers the risk of severe cardiovascular events, including: myocardial infarction, stroke, coronary revascularization, and unstable angina.

Bringing this advanced solution to Vietnamese patients represents a significant step for Long Chau in elevating cardiovascular healthcare quality. With 2,678 pharmacies across 34 provinces and cities, the company enhances domestic access to modern treatment advancements, improving long-term disease control and reducing the risk of dangerous recurrent events.
A Long Chau representative stated the company's commitment to providing millions of patients easier access to rare medications and international-standard medical innovations, ensuring modern care comparable to developed nations. This is crucial as non-communicable diseases present numerous challenges for the healthcare sector, demanding specialized expertise, broad accessibility, and sustained patient support.
Aligning with the Politburo's Resolution No. 72-NQ/TW on universal healthcare and Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on science and technology development, Long Chau plans to introduce over 30 new generation medications to the public in 2026. This initiative aims to enhance quality of life and reduce the community's disease burden.
