Man dies after penis enlargement surgery in Taiwan

A 50-year-old man died 7 hours after undergoing penis enlargement surgery at a clinic in Taipei, Taiwan. The procedure cost 400,000 TWD (approximately 13,000 USD) and the cause of death is suspected to be complications from anesthesia.

The incident occurred on 17/9 at a clinic in Zhongshan District, Taipei City, Taiwan. The 50-year-old man died during recovery after undergoing penis enlargement surgery. Initial reports suggest improper anesthesia administration may have been the cause. The surgery cost approximately 400,000 TWD (around 13,000 USD).

According to Today, the surgery began at 9 a.m. and concluded at noon. The patient was then left to rest alone. However, after 7 p.m., clinic staff discovered him unresponsive and without a pulse. Police reported the incident to the prosecutor's office for a post-mortem examination and investigation. No official conclusion has been released.

The surgeon, Ding Binhuang, has a history of medical malpractice. In 2013, he performed multiple procedures on another male patient, including penile implant surgery, liposuction, and blepharoplasty. The 8-hour surgery resulted in a blood clot for the patient, who had pre-existing hypertension and diabetes. The patient subsequently died from respiratory shock during recovery. Ding was prosecuted and sentenced to 3 months in prison for negligent homicide.

In 2015, a female patient visited Ding's clinic for breast augmentation and liposuction. Ding punctured the patient's colon, causing sepsis. The patient later withdrew the lawsuit after receiving compensation. That same year, Ding was accused of sexually harassing another female patient and had to pay 250,000 TWD in compensation.

More recently, Ding has been accused of allowing his girlfriend and housekeeper, neither of whom have medical training, to assist in surgeries. These procedures were reportedly performed in unsanitary conditions, leading to cellulitis and fat necrosis in patients' incisions.

Despite numerous inspections by the Department of Health, Ding continued to practice. A joint inspection in 2023 revealed a cluttered surgical environment in his clinic, with the operating table piled with miscellaneous items.
