A middle-aged man in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, recently required emergency hospitalization after a sex toy became lodged deep in his rectum, HK01 reported on 23/3.
Chinese media reported that immediately after the incident, he sought medical attention. He stated he could feel the foreign object but could not remove it. Doctors recommended immediate removal; however, hoping the object would pass naturally, the patient chose to leave.
After three days, the foreign object remained, and his abdominal pain intensified, forcing him to return to the hospital. A CT scan revealed the sex toy had been in his bowel too long, causing a severe perforation. Doctors performed a colostomy to successfully remove the object. Post-surgery, the patient needs 3 to 6 months to stabilize before undergoing surgery to reverse the colostomy and restore full excretory function.
Doctors stated this is not an isolated incident. Previously, another patient was hospitalized after inserting a 200 ml shampoo bottle into his anus. The bottle's angular design and the patient's hesitation, delaying treatment, led to a perforated bowel and severe peritonitis, requiring open surgery to save his life.
According to medical experts, a foreign object in the anus is a surgical emergency requiring immediate medical intervention. People should never attempt to remove foreign objects at home. Incorrect procedures can lead to dangerous complications: bowel necrosis, blood infection, or even partial bowel resection, causing irreversible damage to the digestive and excretory systems.
