Reducing melasma and skin aging in three weeks

Mai's skin, which had become loose and deeply pigmented with melasma after childbirth, showed significant improvement after three weeks of treatment using ultrasound technology combined with HA injections.

Mai, 30, a Vietnamese-American residing in the US, visited Vietnam for the new year and took the opportunity to seek skin examination and treatment. Master Doctor Vu Thi Thuy Trang, a dermatologist and aesthetic skin specialist at Tam Anh General Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, diagnosed Mai with mild early skin aging, superficial melasma, and dehydration. These conditions are common in postpartum women, often linked to hormonal imbalances, sleep deprivation, and stress.

Given Mai's three-week stay in Vietnam, Doctor Trang opted against deeply invasive procedures. Instead, she recommended treatment using the synchronized parallel ultrasound wave technology SUPERB (Sofwave). This method selectively targets the superficial dermis, stimulating the natural production of collagen and elastin, which gradually firms the skin without requiring any downtime.

In parallel, Mai's superficial melasma was treated with a Pico Pro laser, using an appropriate energy level. This laser works by breaking down melanin pigments, which fades melasma spots, minimizes damage to surrounding tissues, and reduces the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

The doctor also prescribed HA injections to restore moisture, enhance skin's smoothness and firmness, and strengthen its overall health, thereby effectively supporting the rejuvenation and melasma treatments. After about one week, Mai's skin felt firmer and more elastic, with a noticeable reduction in dryness and dullness, and an overall brighter, more even tone. One week before her return to the US, she underwent an additional laser session.

Doctor Trang emphasized that non-invasive methods, which rely on natural biological stimulation and show gradually increasing effectiveness over time, are generally a safe option, particularly for postpartum women. Following SUPERB and HA injection treatments, individuals should prioritize skin care, ensuring thorough moisturization and consistent use of broad-spectrum sunscreen to prevent hyperpigmentation. During the initial days after HA injections, it is important to avoid vigorous facial massages, heavy makeup, and steam treatments. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, adequate sleep, and sufficient hydration are essential for extending the treatment's benefits.

Individuals experiencing signs of sagging or aging skin should consult a hospital with a specialized Dermatology - Aesthetic Skin department. There, doctors can conduct an examination and develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to their specific needs.
