The inauguration ceremony took place on 21/3, marking a new milestone for Vietnam's largest ophthalmology system in expanding its vision care network across the Southwestern region. The hospital, spanning 2,000 square meters and located on 23/8 street, features comprehensive investments consistent with its 27 other branches.

Speaking at the ceremony, Second-degree specialist doctor Nguyen Chi Thanh, Director of the Ca Mau Department of Health, noted that Mat Sai Gon Minh Hai Eye Hospital in Bac Lieu ward is one of the first private specialized ophthalmology facilities in the province.

"This represents a significant step in diversifying healthcare services, facilitating access for local residents to high-quality examination and treatment right in their area, and contributing to reducing the burden on higher-level hospitals", Nguyen Chi Thanh stated.

Residents of Bac Lieu and neighboring provinces can now access advanced medical care without traveling to Can Tho or TP HCM, saving both time and travel costs. The hospital focuses on surgical procedures and infection control, drawing on 22 years of operational experience to ensure treatment quality consistent with major centers in TP HCM.

The management has identified phacoemulsification surgery for cataracts as a core service. Furthermore, to address school health challenges, the hospital plans to operate a Myopia Control Center for children in Q4/2026.

Alongside its professional expertise, the unit emphasizes social responsibility through welfare programs. On its opening day, the hospital provided 1,000 free eye exams for disadvantaged local residents.

The Sai Gon Eye Hospital System was established in 2004, with its first headquarters in TP HCM. Over 22 years, with the addition of the Bac Lieu branch, the network now comprises 28 hospitals and specialized clinics operating in many provinces and cities nationwide. Over 1,200 doctors and medical staff work here, focusing on surgeries such as refractive, cataract, retinal, and ocular aesthetics.

In 2024, Mat Sai Gon set a record for being the "Largest non-public eye hospital and specialized clinic system in Vietnam". The Vietnam Record Organization conducted its survey based on several criteria: the number of hospitals and clinics; the number of doctors and medical staff; the scale of facilities and equipment; ophthalmology treatment technology; the number of treatment turns; patient numbers; the number of successful surgeries; and community sharing and contribution programs.
