On 6/8, a representative of the Bac Ninh Department of Health reported that the day before, a patient was brought to Bac Ninh General Hospital No. 1 for surgery to remove an orthopedic device from his right leg. The device had been placed in the boy's leg the previous year. Doctors received the patient and followed all necessary procedures for the surgery.
That afternoon, the boy underwent spinal anesthesia in the Department of Surgery and Anesthesiology. During the procedure, he suddenly experienced anaphylactic shock. The medical team provided intensive resuscitation, but after over an hour, he died. The initial diagnosis was anaphylactic shock, suspected to be a reaction to the anesthetic or antibiotics.
Anaphylactic shock is a severe, undesirable medical complication that can occur during any treatment, especially when using medication. This condition can appear immediately, from a few seconds or minutes to several hours after the body is exposed to an allergen, causing various clinical symptoms that can quickly become life-threatening. Some indicative symptoms include hives, rapid swelling; difficulty breathing, chest tightness, wheezing; abdominal pain or vomiting; low blood pressure or fainting; and altered consciousness.
The Department of Health has requested the hospital immediately establish a specialized council to review the medical records and procedures to determine the cause of the anaphylactic shock and related factors.
