Experts from iCare Pharmaceutical Company Limited (iCare Pharma) note that in Vietnam's hot, humid climate, scalp issues such as dandruff, itchiness, and flaking are common. While frequent hair washing is not enough, proper scalp care requires more, including choosing the right shampoo.
In recent years, natural herbal shampoos have garnered significant interest. Beyond familiar extracts like tea tree or neem (from the leaves, seeds, and bark of the Azadirachta indica tree), other medicinal herbs such as juniper and white holy basil are gaining attention for their effectiveness in cleansing dandruff and protecting the scalp.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the US indicates that juniper has been used in traditional hair care for its cleansing properties and ability to support scalp balance. This extract is also studied for its role in maintaining a stable scalp environment. When incorporated into shampoo formulas, this ingredient often aims to gently support a cleaner scalp, limiting the buildup of sebum, which is a common cause of dandruff recurrence.
While juniper may be relatively new to consumers, white holy basil is a familiar name in traditional hair care practices. For a long time, this herb has been used for hair washing due to its cleansing properties and the comfortable sensation it provides to the skin. In modern products, white holy basil extract is often used to help soothe the scalp, reduce discomfort, and deliver a fresh, clean feeling after washing.

According to an iCare representative, the combination of medicinal herbs like juniper and white holy basil in hair care formulas represents a new direction: leveraging the value of herbs optimized by modern production technology. Instead of focusing on immediate, strong cleansing, many current products aim for sustainable cleaning and maintaining a stable scalp environment.

The improved version of iCare’s Antisol Plus shampoo is one such product, combining both juniper and white holy basil, aiming for a balanced and long-term scalp care solution.
"The selection of herbal extracts in the formula is designed to be more suitable for hot and humid climate conditions, where issues of dandruff and itchy scalp commonly arise," the brand representative stated.
