Treating acne scars and restoring skin

Chien, 14, suffering from facial acne scars, received combined treatment with ionized nutrient delivery, LED light therapy, and scar filling.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Dung, Head of the Dermatology - Cosmetic Dermatology Unit at Tam Anh General Clinic, District 7, observed that Chien's face had numerous hidden acne spots interspersed with inflammatory nodules, cysts, enlarged pores, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and atrophic scars.

"Acne is a very common skin condition during puberty. Prolonged inflammation can easily lead to raised scars and dark spots," explained Dr. Dung.

Dr. Dung developed a personalized treatment plan for Chien, combining various methods to control inflammation and restore skin health. In addition to medication and home skincare, Chien underwent acne extraction, ionized delivery of antibacterial and sebum-controlling nutrients, combined with LED light therapy interspersed with IPL treatments to reduce inflammation and redness.

After over a month, Chien's skin significantly improved. Hidden acne decreased by about 80%, new inflammatory acne was controlled, and severe nodular and cystic acne disappeared. His skin became brighter and more even-toned. Chien is currently continuing treatment with fractional RF technology to stimulate collagen production, shrink pores, control sebum, improve skin quality, and fill acne scars.

According to Dr. Dung, effective acne treatment involves not only cleansing the skin's surface but also addressing the root causes of acne. These can include hormonal imbalances, increased sweating and sebum production, disruption of the skin's microbiome, chronic stress, or inappropriate lifestyle and skincare habits.

Dr. Dung advises individuals with persistent or recurring acne to consult a dermatologist for examination and a scientific treatment plan. Squeezing pimples, overusing cosmetics, or improper skincare can worsen skin damage. Reluctance to seek professional help or lack of adherence to long-term treatment plans can lead to recurring acne and scar formation.
