On 2/7, a representative from Ninh Binh General Hospital reported that the woman, whose due date was 9/7, suddenly experienced labor pains. Her family drove her to the hospital. During the journey, the woman's mother, who was accompanying her, calmly assisted with the delivery as labor intensified. She helped deliver the baby, wiped him dry, and kept him warm while the car continued its drive to the hospital.
Upon arrival at the hospital, the baby's umbilical cord was still attached, but he was pink and crying. The mother, however, had not yet delivered the placenta and was bleeding.
Midwife Nguyen Thi Mai Lan from the delivery department received the mother and baby for emergency care. She cut the baby's umbilical cord and provided warmth and newborn care. The mother received emergency treatment, including placenta delivery, intravenous fluids, and perineal repair suturing.
Currently, the health of both mother and baby is stable. The 3,5 kg baby boy is being monitored and cared for at the hospital.
The woman's mother recounted her experience, stating that while she had never delivered a human baby, she had many years of experience delivering calves. "When my daughter went into labor in the car, I calmly handled it. I delivered the baby into my hands, wiped his face and nose so he could breathe, and then held him close just as the car arrived at the hospital", she said.

Doctors assessed this as a dangerous out-of-hospital birth, carrying significant risks. The mother could experience postpartum hemorrhage due to the absence of uterine contraction-aiding medication, uncontrolled bleeding from perineal tears, or retained or delayed placental delivery, all of which could lead to hemorrhage and infection. The baby faced risks of asphyxia, hypothermia, infection, umbilical tetanus, and injury.
Doctors advise pregnant women and their families not to be complacent, emphasizing the need for prenatal check-ups, especially during the last weeks of pregnancy. When nearing the due date or experiencing signs of labor, pregnant women should go immediately to the local medical facility for monitoring and a safe birth.
