An initial report from the An Sinh ward People's Committee states that Nam entered the Hai Ha Social Work Center on 22/12. The next morning, Nam reportedly had a conflict with roommates and was beaten, sustaining injuries. That afternoon, Nam's health declined, and he died at home, his body covered in bruises.

Authorities have determined that a group of individuals assaulted Nam with tools, causing injuries that resulted in his death.

The Hai Ha Social Work Center provides care and treatment for children with autism, disabilities, and game addiction. Nam's family enrolled him at the center under a contract costing 12 million dong per month.
