20 arrested after violent brawl in Da Nang city center

A group of armed teenagers sped through central Da Nang streets before clashing, leaving a 17-year-old with a severe chest wound.

On 20/3, the Da Nang City Police Criminal Investigation Department announced the urgent detention of 20 teenagers, aged 16 and older, for investigation into alleged murder and disturbing public order.

Initial investigations revealed that around 3 a.m. on 16/3, numerous groups of teenagers from areas including Hoa Khanh, Hoa Xuan, Hoa Vang, Dien Ban, and Hoi An gathered. Armed with tridents, swords, knives, iron pipes, and pepper spray, they rode motorbikes through various streets, actively seeking out rival groups to settle disputes. The groups eventually converged on 2 Thang 9 street in Hoa Cuong ward, where a violent brawl erupted.

During the confrontation, one group attacked with tridents, stabbing a 17-year-old male in the left chest. The victim sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving hospital treatment, thus not yet subject to any preventive measures. Another individual suffered minor injuries. Additionally, two other participants were deemed underage for criminal responsibility and will not face criminal charges.

Authorities confiscated several weapons used in the brawl, including tridents, knives, swords, iron pipes, and pepper spray, along with related vehicles.

The Da Nang City Police are continuing to expand their investigation into the incident.
