Previously, the Economic Security Department detected signs of legal violations in food safety at the Dong Kenh livestock facility in Phu Duc commune, Hung Yen province, which the Hungs owned.
During an inspection, authorities found 379 pigs in 12 pens, with a total weight of approximately 18.4 tons. They also discovered two cold storage units holding over 2 tons of animal products. Test and assessment results confirmed that 7 of 12 blood samples from the live pigs and all meat samples from cold storage tested positive for the African swine fever virus.
Police determined that from July to September this year, despite knowing their pig herd was infected, the Hungs slaughtered the pigs, stored the meat in cold storage, and then sold it to multiple distributors for processing into food for consumers.
