Quyen threw the boy hard onto a mattress and went outside. When she saw the child still crying and crawling to the bedroom door, she threw him again. The boy landed at the edge of the mattress, his head hitting the floor.
Quyen took the boy to the Quang Ngai Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital when she noticed he was turning purple and convulsing. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred to Da Nang Hospital.
Quyen initially told the family that the boy had fallen from a high chair. However, when the family asked to review the camera footage, she refused.
Suspecting abuse, the boy's family reported the incident to the police.
The forensic examination by the Institute of Forensic Science (Ministry of Public Security) in Da Nang confirmed that the boy suffered a traumatic brain injury with an injury rate of 47%.
For the past 20 days, the 14-month-old boy had been treated in the surgical intensive care unit (Anesthesia and Resuscitation Department, Da Nang Hospital). By 5 p.m. this afternoon, his vital signs began to fade.
