Driver detained for assaulting colleague on street

Mai Xuan Anh allegedly grabbed a colleague by the collar, punched him, and forced his head onto a car hood after a dispute over referring taxi customers.

On 11/4, Nga Son Commune Police temporarily detained Mai Xuan Anh (36, residing in Ho Vuong commune) for investigation into disturbing public order, pursuant to article 318, section 1 of the Penal Code.

Four days prior, a video clip circulated on social media, showing a man in a white shirt being assaulted by a 5-seater car driver on National Highway 10, near the center of Nga Son commune. The footage showed the driver exiting his vehicle, grabbing the man by the collar, choking him, and repeatedly punching him in the face. Moments later, a woman on a motorbike approached, hurled insults, and threw sandals at the victim.

The incident, which occurred around 2 PM that day, garnered significant shares and comments, sparking outrage across social media platforms. Following an investigation, Nga Son Commune Police identified Mai Xuan Anh as the assailant and Nguyen, from Nga Thang commune in Thanh Hoa province, as the victim.

Initial investigations suggest the altercation originated from a disagreement regarding the referral of taxi passengers. Around 1:30 PM on the day of the incident, the two individuals exchanged messages, which escalated into insults and challenges, leading them to arrange a meeting to settle the dispute.

When they met near Kenh Bridge in Hung Long village, Nga Son commune, Mai Xuan Anh allegedly punched the victim in the face, choked him, and forced his head onto the car hood. The victim sustained injuries and required medical treatment.

Police authorities stated that the incident, which took place in a crowded central area, disrupted public order. The subsequent circulation of the video clip on social media generated negative public sentiment and impacted local social safety.

Authorities are currently compiling the case file, assessing the victim's injuries, and clarifying the roles of all individuals involved to ensure appropriate legal action is taken.
