Coran Davies, 23, sent a selfie showing off his newly done cosmetic teeth from a dental clinic in Turkey to his friend Dale Howell, 25. The message also contained details about supplying cocaine and cannabis. Unbeknownst to Davies, Howell's phone had already been seized and was being analyzed by police as part of an investigation.
Following the discovery of the message, South Wales Police identified Davies using facial recognition technology. They analyzed his facial features from the selfie and compared them against law enforcement reference databases.
