Falling into the co-land buyer's trap

Ngo Thanh Viet trusted Nguyen Le Duy Dung to secure a land title for an undocumented plot they co-invested in, ultimately losing 2.7 billion dong.

On 7/4, the Investigation Police Agency of Da Nang City Police initiated legal proceedings and temporarily detained Nguyen Le Duy Dung, 53, residing in Son Tra ward, for property fraud.

According to the investigation, Dung exploited his acquaintance with Ngo Thanh Viet, 35, to invite him to co-invest in a plot of land in An Hai ward. Dung falsely stated its price was 800 million dong but that it lacked a land title.

After receiving the investment, Dung did not proceed with the purchase as promised. Instead, he misappropriated the entire sum for personal use.

In 8/2019, Dung again provided false information, proposing to sell his entire co-investment share to Viet for 1.2 billion dong.

By 10/2019, Dung promised Viet he would process the land title for the plot at a cost of 1.3 billion dong. He committed to completing the legal procedures within two months.

Trusting this promise, from 2019 to 2020, Viet repeatedly handed over money to Dung, totaling 1.1 billion dong, for the land title issuance. After receiving the funds, Dung cut off contact.

Investigators determined that Dung defrauded the victim of a total of 2.7 billion dong.
