Sil was taken into custody by An Giang provincial police on 5/7 on suspicion of murder.

The incident began when the boat of fisherman Le Chi Cong, 32, collided with Sil's boat while attempting to moor at Kien Luong commune. A dispute arose over the mooring space, leading to a verbal altercation and threats of physical violence. Cong subsequently moved his boat to a different mooring spot.

Later that night, still angry over the earlier argument, Sil took a knife to Cong's workplace and confronted him. A fight ensued, during which Cong struck Sil with a metal pipe. Sil then stabbed Cong multiple times in the chest and abdomen, resulting in his death.

Sil turned himself in to the Kien Luong commune police later that evening.
