Former commune chairman arrested on bribery charges

Nguyen Khanh Thanh, 54, former chairman of Bich Hao commune, has been accused of receiving bribes during the implementation of several construction projects in the area.

On 14/6, Nghe An Provincial Police announced they had temporarily detained Thanh to investigate the act of receiving bribes, under article 354 of the penal code.

Previously, the Standing Committee of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee had decided to discipline Thanh by expelling him from the Party.

According to authorities, the violations occurred a few years ago while Thanh served as chairman of Thanh Xuan Commune People's Committee, Thanh Chuong district (former), related to the implementation of several construction projects.

Thanh had worked for decades in Thanh Xuan commune, holding many key leadership positions. In 2025, when Bich Hao commune was established, he became its chairman.
