TikTok wheelie video reveals theft charges

Nguyen Thanh Dat posted a motorcycle wheelie video on TikTok to gain views, leading police to discover the vehicle was stolen property.

On 29/7, Dat, from Ha Tinh, and Nguyen Van Bao, both 16 years old, were prosecuted by the Nghe An Provincial Police. They are prohibited from leaving their residence while under investigation for property theft, as per Article 173 of the Penal Code.

According to the investigation, a few days prior, Dat performed a motorcycle wheelie without a helmet on the inter-commune road in Phuc Trach, formerly part of Huong Khe district, Ha Tinh province. He then had a friend record the video and posted it on TikTok to gain views and engagement.

Phuc Trach Commune Police initiated an investigation and identified the motorcycle Dat used as stolen property.

Dat confessed that he and Bao stole the motorcycle in Duc Chau commune. They then transported it to Ha Tinh and concealed it in a cemetery, awaiting an opportunity to sell it.
