On 3/2/2025, Nguyen Van Hung, 21 years old, a resident of Thanh Hoa province, reported the GoGreat Sport application to authorities. The app was found linking to the dofustream.cloud website, which streamed games from the National Basketball Association (NBA). This occurred while FPT Telecom Joint Stock Company (FPT Telecom) held exclusive broadcasting and media exploitation rights for the league in Vietnam.
Investigators later determined that around September 2024, Ha Thanh Tam invited Quan, Tien, and Phuc to develop an application. This app allowed users to watch US sports leagues for free, aiming to profit from online advertising.
The group acquired the websites dofustream.com and dofustream.cloud. They then developed the GoGreat Sport application, available on the App Store, which linked to these websites. This enabled them to illegally broadcast sports leagues such as the NBA, National Football League (NFL), Major League Baseball (MLB), National Hockey League (NHL), and National Collegiate Athletic Association Football (NCAAF). Concurrently, they integrated advertisements from Google Ads and Unity Ads to generate revenue.
When users accessed the application, the advertising system automatically displayed ads at various stages. Each ad interaction generated revenue for the group. The advertising proceeds were regularly transferred to bank accounts held by Quan and Tien. Investigators estimate the group's total illegal profits amounted to 12 billion VND.
FPT Telecom confirmed it had no agreements or authorizations with the dofustream.com and dofustream.cloud websites.
Authorities consider this a serious case, infringing on intellectual property rights and disrupting state management in the information and communication sector.
