Grandmother suspected of killing two grandsons

Mai Thi Van is suspected of killing her 8 and 12-year-old grandsons before attempting suicide. She was discovered and taken to the hospital.

On 31/8, Hung Yen provincial police initiated a murder investigation, focusing on Mai Thi Van, the suspect in the killing of her two grandsons in Nhac Mieu village, Nhu Quynh commune.

Around 7:45 a.m. that day, villagers discovered the body of an 8-year-old boy in the river. Authorities later found Van seriously injured, next to the body of her other grandson, a 12-year-old boy. Van was hospitalized and is now in stable condition.

Initial investigations suggest that Nguyen Van Phuong, the boys' father from Yet Kieu commune, Hai Phong city, brought his sons to their grandmother's rented room the previous evening. Van allegedly had a conflict with the family, leading her to kill her grandsons and attempt suicide.
