Police in Dak Lak province arrested Chao Lao Ta, a resident of Lao Cai, on July 26 for extortion.

In 2022, Ta, posing as "Hoang Hai Yen," advertised his supposed spiritual healing services on a Facebook group. A 36-year-old woman from Dak Lak, seeking to mend family issues, contacted him.
Ta told the woman that a nude video call was required for the ritual. He recorded the call, promising to perform the healing ritual afterward.
Two years later, in August 2024, Ta demanded money from the woman, threatening to post the nude images online.
Using this tactic, Ta extorted over 4 million VND from the victim between October 2024 and July 2025.
