According to the investigation, Sang had previously worked for a company in the golden triangle special economic zone. In early 2024, upon returning to Nghe An, he colluded with a transnational criminal group, deceiving several people into going to Laos for work in exchange for a commission.
Sang approached residents in the former Con Cuong district, claiming that companies in Laos were recruiting employees with a salary of 17 million VND per month, including room and board and travel expenses. Believing him, 16 people from Cam Phuc and Con Cuong communes crossed the border into Laos, where Sang and his accomplices sold them to fraudulent organizations in the golden triangle.
They were forced to impersonate government officials, making scam calls to Vietnam for 17 hours a day. Those who failed to meet their quotas were beaten, electrocuted, and denied pay.
Based on the victims' reports, Nghe An provincial police launched an investigation and arrested Sang while he was hiding in the rugged mountains of Phuoc Thanh commune, Da Nang city.
Authorities have not disclosed the amount Sang received from the Laotian human trafficking group for each transaction. The case is under further investigation.
