A 55-year-old man residing in Phu Dien ward has been fined 12.5 million VND by the Internal Political Security Department of Hanoi City Police. The fine, announced on 28/8, was issued for providing and sharing false, fabricated, distorted, or slanderous information that infringed upon the reputation of agencies, organizations, or the honor and dignity of individuals, as stipulated by point a, clause 1, article 95 of Decree 174/2026.

Police determined that the man used his Facebook account to post an article and an image of a fabricated indictment decision, falsely attributed to the Hanoi City Police Investigation Agency. The post was deemed to have caused public confusion and damaged the reputation and honor of the involved agencies and organizations.

During questioning, the man admitted that the information he shared was unverified and false.

Police urged the public to remain vigilant and refrain from using or spreading unverified information, warning against contributing to the dissemination of fake news and violating the law.

Previously, on the evening of 17/8, VTV broadcast a news report exceeding 6 minutes about a BMW X3 driver causing an accident on Nguyen Huy Tu street. The incident occurred on 30/5/2025, involving a father and his 18-year-old daughter on a motorbike. The father was injured, and his daughter, riding pillion, died. The driver of the car was Nguyen Sy Cuong, former Vice Chairman of the 14th National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee.

Colonel Nguyen Duc Long, Deputy Director of Hanoi City Police, stated that after a comprehensive assessment of evidence, the investigation agency determined Cuong had violated road traffic regulations, as per clause 1, article 260 of the Penal Code. Cuong honestly confessed to all his actions, actively remedied the consequences, and was acknowledged by the victim's family, who submitted a petition requesting his exemption from criminal prosecution.

The investigation confirmed that Cuong had no alcohol in his system and possessed a valid driver's license. "Based on the documents, evidence, a comprehensive and objective assessment, and in accordance with legal provisions, it was determined that Cuong met the conditions for exemption from criminal prosecution," Colonel Long said.
