Vinh Long Provincial Police have charged and detained Dinh Van Luyen, 45, for murder following an incident where he allegedly used a metal chain to beat a colleague to death. The incident, which occurred at a bank branch in Long Chau ward, is being investigated under Article 123 of the Penal Code.
The victim, a 49-year-old male colleague from Phuoc Hau ward, died two days after sustaining severe traumatic brain injury. Luyen allegedly attacked him on the evening of 16/8 after an argument over Luyen arriving 20 minutes late for his security shift.
According to initial investigations, Luyen rode his motorbike to the bank branch to start his shift. Upon arrival, his colleague, waiting to hand over the shift, scolded him for his tardiness. Luyen explained that his motorbike had run out of fuel and that he had already informed the security team leader. However, his colleague continued to complain, escalating the situation into a heated argument.
In a fit of anger, Luyen grabbed a metal chain, typically used for locking bike wheels, and struck the victim in the face and the back of the head. The victim collapsed on the spot. Luyen, along with nearby residents, immediately took the injured colleague to the emergency room before Luyen surrendered to Long Chau Ward Police.
