On 23/6, Tan and 23-year-old Danh Quy were arrested by Kien Giang provincial police and charged with murder.

According to investigators, on the evening of 19/6, Tan and Quy were drinking with a young man in Go Quao town. After the gathering ended and the man returned home, Tan and Quy followed him, urging him to continue drinking. A relative of the young man then began yelling at them from inside the house, telling them to leave.

Tan and Quy initially left but, fueled by anger, returned with knives. They challenged the person who had yelled at them to "come outside and talk."

When the 40-year-old man emerged, Tan and Quy, despite being unsure if he was the one who had yelled at them, attacked him with their knives. The victim died at the scene with 9 wounds.

Following the attack, the pair fled but were apprehended by police the next afternoon. They confessed to the crime during questioning.
