Man's testimony reveals motive behind apartment assault

Dang Chi Thanh confessed that the assault on the 28-year-old woman in the apartment lobby stemmed from a disagreement between their children.

On 11/8, at the Hanoi Police Department, Thanh stated that his son and the 28-year-old woman's son had a disagreement while playing in the lobby of Sky Central apartment building at 176 Dinh Cong several days prior. His son told him he had been hit, while the other child denied it.

Thanh approached the woman to request an apology, but they argued. On the evening of 9/8, he encountered her in the apartment building's elevator lobby and assaulted her.

Security camera footage shows that at 10:30 PM on 9/8, Thanh punched the woman twice in the face. As she backed away, he kicked her in the stomach and punched her 10 more times in the face and head. Security guards intervened, but Thanh remained aggressive and attempted to continue the assault.

On the morning of 11/8, a resident of the apartment building said the children had a minor quarrel, which led to a heated argument between the parents. "After the assault, the man shouted threats and even threatened to kill the woman," the resident said.

The apartment management declined to provide information about the incident but confirmed that security guards witnessed the event and recounted the assault to the police.
