Tho confessed to knowing that rice merchants often kept cash in their motorbike compartments. He would loiter around areas where farmers were harvesting rice, looking for unattended vehicles. On 23/7, in Vinh An commune, he spotted a merchant's motorbike and used a tool to pry open the compartment.
He stole 460 million dong, which he used to settle debts and gamble. Two days later, police apprehended him with the remaining 100 million dong.
