On 6/5, the Investigation Police Agency of Quang Tri Provincial Police announced the emergency arrest of Nguyen Viet Hoang, from Tan Gianh commune, for investigation into murder.

At approximately 12:15 on 5/5, Hoang, riding a bicycle and carrying a machete about 70 cm long, unexpectedly stormed into the criminal duty room of Ba Don Ward Police.

According to the accusation, he repeatedly slashed Captain Hoang Trung Hoai, an officer of the order police unit who was on duty, in the head and legs before fleeing. Captain Hoai sustained severe injuries, including a serious wound that severed one-third of his right foot. Hoang was apprehended immediately after the incident.

Authorities initially determined that Hoang and Captain Hoai had no prior conflict or acquaintance. Authorities concluded that Hoang's excessive alcohol consumption led to a loss of behavioral control.
