Man sues millionaire heiress ex-wife in divorce battle

Evicted 48 hours after separation and awarded only £325,000 of a £66 million fortune, Simon Entwistle is fighting for more.

42-year-old financial trader Simon Entwistle and millionaire heiress Jenny Helliwell, also 42, were together from 2016 to 2022, enjoying a lavish lifestyle. Entwistle reportedly "relished being part of an extremely wealthy family," living with Helliwell in a £4.5 million Dubai villa, a gift from her businessman father, Neil Helliwell. Their Paris wedding in August 2019 cost £500,000.

Entwistle's own assets were worth approximately £800,000, including an apartment in Salford.

When the couple separated in August 2022, Helliwell hired lawyers and gave Entwistle 48 hours to leave their home. This triggered a protracted legal battle. Entwistle initially sought £2.5 million of Helliwell's estimated £66 million fortune. Helliwell offered £500,000, later increased to £800,000 to avoid court, but Entwistle refused.

In court, Entwistle claimed he needed £36,000 annually for flights and £26,000 for a "specialized diet." The judge called his demands "ambitious," stating, "Marrying a wealthy person for three years doesn't entitle you to live that way after the relationship ends."

A high court judge initially awarded Entwistle £400,000, citing a prenuptial agreement stipulating the couple would retain their separate assets. After legal fees, Entwistle received only £325,000.

Entwistle appealed, claiming "gender bias" by the judge. He argued that a wife suing a wealthy husband would have fared better. His lawyer argued that if the roles were reversed, a husband would be more generous after six years together.

Entwistle also requested the prenuptial agreement be voided, alleging Helliwell failed to disclose around £48 million of her assets when he signed. On 31/7, the appeals court judge ruled in Entwistle's favor, declaring Helliwell's non-disclosure of £48 million of her £66 million fortune "fraudulent" and voiding the prenuptial agreement. Helliwell had only disclosed around £18 million, omitting £48 million, including an £8 million Dubai waterfront plot and a £1.6 million Wimbledon property. Entwistle had signed the agreement unaware of the extent of her wealth.

"The husband in this case was deliberately deprived of information to which he was entitled," the judge stated. "In my judgment, this agreement cannot stand."

The case has been returned to the high court to be heard as if no prenuptial agreement existed.
