Manhattan actress sues building owners over 'lack of UV protection' in $6.2 million apartment

Actress Jennifer Betit Yen claims her luxury apartment's floor-to-ceiling windows exposed her to potentially harmful UV rays.

Manhattan actress Jennifer Betit Yen, 48, is suing the owners and developers of her 43-story New York City building for $1 million, claiming she suffered facial damage due to the floor-to-ceiling windows in her $6.2 million apartment.

Yen and her husband, film producer J. Peyton Worley, 47, purchased the 3,000-square-foot, four-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom apartment in November 2021. The apartment boasts stunning views of the East River. "The exterior walls are all floor-to-ceiling windows," the lawsuit states.

The couple filed suit in Manhattan Supreme Court, alleging that representatives of the Soloviev Building Co. and the building's management repeatedly assured them the apartment offered "100% UV protection".

Yen, a melanoma survivor, said she repeatedly questioned building representatives about UV radiation protection.

In a blog post last year, the actress and TV host wrote, "I am in the surreal situation of unknowingly sitting in what I thought was the safety of my own home, bathing in potentially deadly UV rays every day during peak sunlight hours."

On 27/6, a Manhattan Supreme Court judge dismissed Yen's lawsuit, stating she failed to demonstrate negligence on the part of the defendants.

The building developers argued that Yen and her husband signed a purchase agreement acknowledging they were not relying on "any promotional brochures, sales websites, representations, warranties, or promises" when they bought the apartment. They called the lawsuit "baseless".
