The Investigation Police Agency of Quang Ninh Provincial Police issued an emergency detention order and temporarily detained Sang on 6/5 to investigate his acts of property theft.

Previously, on 21/1, a family in Duong Hoa commune reported to the police that an intruder had broken in and stolen 1,7 taels of gold and 5 million dong in cash, totaling approximately 265 million dong.

While authorities were tracking the suspect, another incident occurred in Mong Cai 3 ward, where an intruder broke into a homeowner's safe, resulting in the loss of approximately 1,2 billion dong in savings.

Upon examining the crime scenes, investigators determined the suspect was a professional thief, employing sophisticated methods, capable of disabling security systems, and frequently changing operational areas across provinces to erase traces.

The special task force identified Sang as the suspect and arrested him on the night of 29/4 at a guesthouse in Tuyen Quang province. On site, police seized over 192 million dong in cash and 4,38 taels of gold, identified as evidence from the thefts.

Sang also confessed to carrying out a theft in Nghia Phuong commune, Bac Ninh province, on 2/10/2025, taking 4,6 taels of gold and 18 million dong in cash. He also committed two incidents in Hai Phong, involving nearly 300 million dong in cash and 19 chi of gold.

Authorities are investigating other thefts Sang committed.
