Miss Thuy Tien signed a false contract to 'protect her image' amid Kera candy scandal

Amidst the scandal concerning the fiber content in Kera candy, Miss Thuy Tien asked Sen Vang Company to sign a false contract to evade responsibility and maintain her public image.

Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien (Miss Grand International 2021)'s actions were outlined in the investigative conclusion of the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency (C01). They have proposed that the Supreme People's Procuracy prosecute her for "fraudulent acts against consumers," under Clause 2, Article 198 of the Penal Code.

C01 also recommended prosecuting Nguyen Thi Thai Hang (also known as Hang Du Muc, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Chi Em Rot - CER Corporation), Pham Quang Linh (also known as Quang Linh Vlogs, Member of the Board of Directors), Le Tuan Linh (Director and legal representative of CER), and Le Thanh Cong (Member of the Board of Directors) for the same offense.

The Super Greens Gummies (Kera candy) was a collaborative product conceived by Miss Thuy Tien and CER's shareholders. Thuy Tien was entitled to 30% of the profits, while the CER shareholders received 70%.

Therefore, the investigative agency determined that Thuy Tien and CER's shareholders were the owners of Kera candy, bearing full responsibility before the law and consumers for the product's quality, ingredients, and composition.

Following online controversy regarding Kera candy's fiber content, Thuy Tien sought to evade responsibility to protect her public image.

In early 3/2025, at Tien's request, Cong spoke with Le Tuan Linh to sign a contract formalizing the advertising partnership between CER and Sen Vang Advertising and Trading JSC, the company managing Thuy Tien. The goal was to publicly disassociate Thuy Tien from her role as an owner of Kera candy. With this contract, Tien would appear solely as an advertiser for CER's Kera candy.

Tien then requested the CEO of Sen Vang to sign the contract with CER, and they agreed. The head of Sen Vang's business department drafted the contract.

At Thuy Tien's behest, Sen Vang signed the service contract on 7/3/2025, but backdated it to 5/12/2024, to align with Thuy Tien's first Kera candy advertisement broadcast on 12/12/2024.

C01 determined that Sen Vang employees were not involved in the production, promotion, introduction, or announcement of CER's Kera candy. Tien's representation, advertising, and promotion of the Kera brand were personal endeavors, not on behalf of Sen Vang.

After Tien requested Sen Vang to formalize a contract with CER to legitimize her Kera candy advertising from 12/2024, the CEO directed subordinates to draft and sign the contract. This aimed to protect Thuy Tien's image and prevent repercussions for Sen Vang.

C01 concluded that Sen Vang and its employees did not profit from Kera candy's production or publicity, nor from signing the contract for Thuy Tien. Therefore, their actions did not constitute a crime and showed no signs of complicity with the accused in the case.

6 livestreams exaggerating Kera candy generated 17.5 billion VND

According to the conclusion, Le Tuan Linh directed CER's brand and communications department to develop advertising content for Kera candy and provide it to Thuy Tien, Quang Linh Vlogs, and Hang Du Muc. These three key opinion leaders (KOLs) used this information in their live broadcasts.

Between 12/12/2024 and 16/1/2025, six livestreams advertising, introducing, and selling the product took place on Quang Linh Vlogs and Hang Du Muc's personal Tiktok channels. Miss Thuy Tien participated in three of these livestreams.

During the livestreams, Tien, Linh, and Hang continuously misrepresented Kera candy's benefits. Quang Linh stated, "one candy is equivalent to a plate of boiled vegetables because of the added fiber from fruits and vegetables," and "if you don't have vegetables, you have this product, which is very easy to eat."

Miss Thuy Tien shared, "Kera is a candy that supplements fiber and nutrients for everyone, not just those who don't eat vegetables like me. Each candy contains 10 different fruits and vegetables along with vitamins."

In reality, the investigation found the fiber content in the candy to be very low—only 0.935%—offering little benefit to those who avoid vegetables. Yet, the group exaggerated its efficacy in their advertising.

During the first livestream on 12/12/2024, the product wasn't available, requiring customers to wait 7-14 days. Despite this, the broadcast sold 2,836 orders, totaling 3,109 boxes of candy. At 129,000 VND per box, the livestream generated 400 million VND.

Seeing the high profits, Miss Thuy Tien requested a larger profit share, and the CER group agreed to give her 30% (a 5% increase from the initial agreement). Simultaneously, the CER group, recognizing the sales potential, discussed strategies for creating promotional videos that exaggerated the product's benefits.

Chi Em Rot commissioned Asia Life JSC, chaired by Nguyen Phong, to manufacture the candy. After self-certifying the product, Asia Life began producing Kera candy at its factory in Dak Lak Province. From 6/12/2024 to 3/3/2025, Asia Life used over 240 kg of 10 different vegetable and fruit powders to produce nearly 168,000 boxes of finished Kera candy. Of these, 160,127 boxes were sold to Chi Em Rot, over 4,000 were awaiting delivery, 3,800 remained at the factory, and four boxes were given to the Dak Lak Department of Health.

The total cost of raw materials and packaging for producing 160,127 boxes of candy was two billion VND (including 1.2 billion VND for raw materials). Asia Life then sold them to CER for a total of 5.6 billion VND. Thus, C01 concluded that Asia Life had illegally profited 2.9 billion VND.

Trusting the false advertising by celebrities, 56,385 customers purchased 129,617 boxes of Kera candy, totaling 17.5 billion VND. Over 40,700 customers bought more than 67,000 boxes of candy via Tiktok, while the remaining 62,000 boxes were sold through the Facebook Fanpage.

C01 concluded that Miss Thuy Tien, Hang Du Muc, and Quang Linh Vlogs used false advertising to deceive consumers into buying Kera candy, illegally profiting 12.4 billion VND.
