Vi "Ngo" was a founding shareholder and played a key role in Manh Tung Petro's operations. Authorities allege that the company omitted over 33 billion VND in revenue from its accounting records, suggesting tax evasion of tens of billions of VND.
The company is also accused of forging numerous value-added tax invoices and creating fictitious transactions to legitimize records and procedures for tax evasion.
Previously, on 21/7, police arrested Vi "Ngo" for bribery, under Article 364 of the penal code. Investigators determined that Vi "Ngo" transferred 350 million VND to a former soldier to bribe an official within the judicial system to reduce the sentence of inmate Nguyen Ngoc Hoa (aka Hoa "Chua"), who is serving a life sentence for murdering a fellow inmate.
After receiving the money, the former soldier kept 70 million VND for personal expenses and transferred the rest to a high-ranking official.
Police say the former soldier confessed to acting as a bribery intermediary to help the inmate reduce his sentence. However, the identities of those involved have not been released.
Vi "Ngo" is a notorious gangster in Thanh Hoa with a criminal record including gambling, loan sharking, protection rackets, and debt collection.
He is also a close associate of Tuan "Than Den", a prominent gangster in Thanh Hoa, who was recently detained by the Department of Corruption, Economic, and Smuggling Investigation (C03, Ministry of Public Security) for investigation into violations of regulations on resource exploitation and accounting, causing serious consequences.
