Paper fraud used to smuggle one hundred thirty tons of diseased pork into canned food company

One hundred thirty tons of pork infected with African swine fever were discovered in the warehouse of a prominent canned food company in Ha Long; two tons had already been processed into finished products.

Hai Phong City Police announced that Bui Duc Trong, 47, residing on Da Nang street, Ngo Quyen ward, and eight others have been prosecuted and temporarily arrested for violating food safety regulations.

According to authorities, Trong and his accomplices had been sourcing diseased pork for about six months, then selling it to the company.

The diseased meat was falsely declared for intra-provincial consumption to evade quarantine certificates. They then laundered its origin by using documents from registered slaughterhouses obtained during the purchase of other goods.

During an inspection of the company's warehouse, police found approximately one hundred thirty tons of diseased meat. Authorities have since destroyed the contaminated product.
