Ca Mau Provincial Police announced on 15/5 the temporary arrest of 15 suspects, aged 15 to 17, for investigation into murder. Most of the suspects are students.
The incident occurred around 5 PM on 8/5, when the group stormed the coffee shop, attacking four individuals inside. One teenager died at the scene, while the three others managed to escape.
Investigators determined that the attack stemmed from a social media conflict between a teenager from Tan Loc commune and the 17-year-old victim from Thoi Binh commune. Prior to the assault, a member of the group reportedly called to confirm the victim's presence at the coffee shop. Subsequently, several teenagers convened to plan the attack, with some purchasing knives for the assault.
Following the report, the Criminal Police Department of Ca Mau Provincial Police, in collaboration with other units, immediately launched an investigation. This involved examining the scene, collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing security camera footage.
Within 24 hours of the incident, authorities identified and detained all 15 individuals for questioning. At the police station, the teenagers admitted their actions were driven by social media disputes, combined with anger and a lack of self-control, leading them to gather, use weapons, and cause serious consequences.
Ca Mau Provincial Police urged parents and schools to enhance oversight and education for children. They particularly emphasized developing conflict resolution skills, emotional control, and preventing involvement in violent groups.
