Dong Thap Provincial Police announced on 15/5 the initiation of legal proceedings against four teenagers, including Nguyen Minh Duy, Nguyen Hoang Nam, Nguyen Lam, and Nguyen Van Khanh Linh, all 17, for disturbing public order. The charges stem from a violent confrontation involving petrol bombs and knives over a one million dong debt.
The incident began when Duy learned a friend was owed one million dong. After the friend's repeated attempts to collect failed, Duy intervened. He engaged in several heated text exchanges with the debtor, escalating the dispute.
The debtor then informed Vo Duy Khang about the situation. Khang subsequently arranged a meeting with Duy near the bypass bridge on provincial road 868B, Nhi Quy ward, to settle the conflict. On the evening of 20/3, Duy, accompanied by 13 other teenagers, arrived at the rendezvous point on 7 motorbikes, armed with homemade knives and petrol-filled bottles.
Unable to locate Khang's group at the initial meeting spot, Duy's group continued searching by motorbike. They eventually encountered each other in Quarter 4, My Phuoc Tay ward. At that moment, Nguyen Hoang Nam reportedly shouted, "Get them!", prompting Duy's group to charge with knives and petrol bombs, forcing Khang's group to flee. After the assault, Duy's group fled the scene. Police later summoned the individuals for questioning, leading to the current charges.
