On 22/5, Tung and 104 others were indicted and detained by the Drug Crime Investigation Department (PC04) of the Ho Chi Minh City Police. They face charges related to buying, selling, transporting, possessing, and organizing the illegal use of illicit drugs. This operation targeted a large-scale drug trafficking network operating across the southern region and the Central Highlands.

According to investigators, during area surveillance, detectives identified Tung's small-scale illegal drug dealing activities in areas of the former Binh Duong province, including Ben Cat, Thoi Hoa, Thu Dau Mot, Phu Loi, Thuan Giao, and An Phu. Recognizing this as a link in a larger network, the Ho Chi Minh City Police initiated a special investigation to dismantle it.
In mid-April, detectives from Team 3 (PC04) caught Tung transporting drugs for distribution. Based on his statements, investigators simultaneously deployed multiple task forces to apprehend three upstream suppliers and 12 downstream branches. These branches purchased drugs from Tung to organize use and resell to users.
As the investigation expanded, PC04 positioned forces to intercept another individual. They apprehended this person, who was transporting over 5 kg of drugs by car from the Central Highlands to Ho Chi Minh City. The evidence was concealed under a screen in the vehicle.
