On 19/4, Ho Chi Minh City Police, in coordination with Binh Hung Hoa ward authorities (formerly Binh Tan district), provisionally detained Tran Van Hoa, 37, a ride-hailing motorbike driver. He is under investigation for intentionally causing injury after an incident involving a traffic collision.
The incident, captured on video by the victim's friend, occurred three days prior. Hoa, after dropping his child off at school, was riding his electric motorbike when he collided with a 20-year-old man's motorbike at the Lo Tu - Ma Lo intersection.
An argument quickly escalated between the two. Hoa allegedly began cursing, and the young man responded with provocative remarks.
According to the investigation, Hoa first struck the young man with his hand. He then opened his motorbike's storage compartment, retrieving a metal three-section stick, approximately 60 cm long, and used it to assault the victim. The victim attempted to flee, and Hoa only ceased his attack when bystanders intervened. He then left the scene.
Following the widely shared video footage, police launched an investigation. They identified Hoa, summoned him for questioning, and seized the weapon and his vehicle as evidence.
