On 24/12, Nam (31) and Nguyen Van Linh (24), both residents of Hue City, were temporarily detained by the Criminal Police Department of Lam Dong Provincial Police for investigation into fraudulent appropriation of property.
Initially, the two suspects admitted to defrauding many people nationwide, appropriating over 10 billion VND.
According to the investigation, starting in mid-2024, the two individuals purchased numerous burner SIM cards and non-owner bank accounts. They then created Facebook pages like "Mua ban xe may uy tin" (Reliable Motorcycle Sales), "Thuong Yaz", and "Cuong Sport", posting images of popular motorcycles among enthusiasts, such as Xipo, Satria, Yaz, and Nova, at prices below market value to lure customers.
When buyers contacted them, Nam and Linh demanded a deposit or full payment for the motorcycle. To build trust, Nam orchestrated a scheme where he sent fake images of motorcycles loaded onto trucks, accompanied by counterfeit warehouse release invoices. He also used multiple phone numbers, impersonating drivers to urge victims to transfer the remaining amount to "deliver the vehicle on time". After receiving the money, the two suspects cut off all contact with the buyers.
Police determined that to conceal the illicit funds, Nam did not withdraw money directly. Instead, he transferred it through online gaming, betting, and gambling accounts before withdrawing it to his personal accounts. Additionally, Nam was found to be involved in online football betting, with total transaction amounts exceeding 5 billion VND.
The Lam Dong Provincial Police are expanding their investigation into the case.
