Mai Van Lac, a Tay Ho resident, was detained on 1/8 by the Da Nang City Police Criminal Investigation Department. He is currently under investigation for property theft and property destruction.
Since mid-June, police had been receiving continuous reports of cars parked on streets at night having their windows smashed and property stolen. Identifying a professional perpetrator, authorities reviewed individuals with prior criminal records in the area. On 29/7, police arrested Lac, a suspect with seven previous convictions for property theft, who had just completed a three-year prison sentence on 21/1.

During the investigation, Lac confessed he needed money for personal expenses. He prepared a screwdriver and pliers and concealed his identity before going out to steal. Around midnight daily, Lac rode his motorbike, seeking out cars parked in deserted, unsupervised areas to smash their windows.
Lac admitted to committing nearly 10 incidents from 20/7 until his arrest. Most recently, in the early morning of 26/7, in the area where Ha Hoi Street intersects Phu Loc 14 in Thanh Khe ward, he smashed the windows of four cars, stealing 7 million VND in cash and 101 USD.
