TikToker 'Cun Bong' charged with tax evasion

Vu Nam Phuong, the TikToker known as "Cun Bong", along with her husband and accountant, have been charged with underreporting sales revenue by over 115 billion VND.

Hanoi police announced on 23/6 that the Economic Police Department has charged Vu Nam Phuong, 38, her husband Nguyen Nam Thang, 30, and their accountant Chu Thi My Nhung, 40, with accounting violations resulting in serious consequences.

Phuong, also known as Vu Hong Phuc or "Cun Bong", is a social media influencer with over 300,000 followers on Facebook, over 500,000 on TikTok, and 72,000 on Instagram.

Phuong sells large quantities of fruit and health supplements at her VHP store on Tran Hung Dao street, Hoan Kiem district. She also sells through e-commerce platforms and social media.

In 2017, Thang established Hoa Ky Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company to manage their business. The couple then opened the VHP store to facilitate their online sales and hired Nhung as their accountant.

From 2023 to the present, Phuong and Thang instructed Nhung to report only a little over 5 billion VND in revenue to authorities. Preliminary investigations reveal their actual revenue exceeded 120 billion VND, resulting in over 10 billion VND in lost tax revenue for the state.

Hanoi police are investigating an additional 500 billion VND in transactions through Phuong's accounts.
