The incident occurred on the morning of 21/2 (the fifth day of Tet). A group of five adults and one child from Dong Nai traveled by car to Tran Phu street, seeking a coffee shop for refreshments and sea views.
One member of the group stated that after stopping their car on the roadside, next to a vacant lot, they sent someone into a nearby coffee shop to inquire about available seating. At that moment, an individual from the rice pot restaurant across the street (98 Tran Phu) demanded they not park there. A heated argument ensued between the two sides.
The man, holding a chair, charged forward, hitting and kicking a woman in the tourist group, but others intervened. He then approached a young man who was holding a brick, challenging him to strike his head, but the young man refused.
Subsequently, the man returned to his restaurant, grabbed a shovel, and came back to chase and assault the group, leaving one young man with a swollen and bruised face.
Vung Tau Ward Police summoned the 49-year-old restaurant owner – identified as the individual who wielded the shovel to chase the tourists – along with two related individuals from the rice pot restaurant for investigation.
