Police in Hoi An Dong ward are holding Trinh Vinh Phuc, 19, and Le Duc Thien Bao, 18, both from Da Nang, for alleged theft on 28/7.

Around 3:30 p.m. on 26/7, Bao and Phuc were at Cua Dai beach when they spotted a foreign tourist's phone left on a wooden chair, covered by clothing while the tourist was swimming.

They took the phone, but the tourist saw them and gave chase. A local resident apprehended Phuc and took him to the police station.

Bao initially escaped, but returned to Cua Dai beach over an hour later to retrieve his motorbike. Police, who had been lying in wait, arrested him. Bao had been released from prison in 11/2024 after serving time for murder.
