Ha Tinh Border Guard forces, in coordination with the Ha Tinh Provincial Police, ambushed a seven-seater car with Nghe An license plates suspected of carrying contraband near the border area of Son Kim 1 commune on the evening of 10/8.

The driver, Pham Ngoc Duy, a Hanoi resident, attempted to flee when he spotted the task force, but officers quickly surrounded and stopped the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle yielded numerous bags of dried cannabis, weighing a total of 115 kg. The cannabis was divided into smaller packages and sealed in blue nylon bags. A subsequent search of Duy's rented room on Vu Quang Street, in Thanh Sen ward, uncovered an additional 125 kg of dried cannabis packed into five black sacks.

Duy confessed to transporting the contraband for an unidentified man near the border of Son Kim 1 commune, formerly in Huong Son district. He was supposed to deliver the cannabis inland to an accomplice in exchange for a fee.

The investigation is ongoing.
